He is indeed at the top of his trade, but has been on the bench at Real Madrid this season often. Why Los Angeles - and why not, say, any of the top 10 teams in the UK...could it be that we have come somewhat sneery of his status in life, realising his life on an English (or perhaps even Scottish) pitch would not be as it was before his move to Spain. Is his move to indulge his choice to be near the world of stars (and this is before we mention Victoria) - would Los Angeles be easy-street for him?
Excuse me if I have put this wee question under 'Entertainment & Music', but it seems soccer might be, in the world of the Beckhams a weekly exercise task rather than a serious stab at making the sport more noted and respected in the US.

Oh...silly old me! Mucho dinero en Los Angeles...I realise that, but will he sharpen up desire to play soccer there. I think not...remember Best, Pele and the other 'Beck' - Franz Beckenbauer in the mid-late seventies. If anyone could have turned North Americans to footy, it was them...but American football, baseball and basketball won the day and the same will happen now as I suspect, Los Angeles Galaxy will be a place where he can do his wee work-out every weekend, for the opposition will not be as hardy as Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool or Portsmouth...but I suspect the habit of throwing themselves onto the ground in order to get free-kick/penalty has not reached the mass country yet...did some dear mention Jurgen Klinsmann?

Watching Liu - could be you're right...he is known on the other side of the Atlantic only too well - and not only by Manchester United, and as you suspect, he might become a liability - unless he took a course in training. But that isn't as sexy.

Douglas 'Oh hello' B...we would all like to earn a handsome amount per week, but it could be that Mr. Beckham, despite him being 'loaded' (to quote the classic phrase) is now merely a conduit for the financial joys of others. Hear that most Americans questioned know more about Victoria then he...and I suspect mrs. Beckham can't wait to leave Spain, as she decided to take on the Costa Del Sol attitude from day one - along with one concert in Spain with 'The Spice girls' ending in farce as the Spaniards saw right through them - I believed she was first to storm off the stage as the sneers rained down.

It's not about the money anymore. Once you are as rich as Beckham is, money is of no concern to you. I get the feeling that he wants to be in LA to expand his brand--Beckham. USA, is the only country whereby he hasn't thus far succeeded; majority of Americans don't know who he is except as, "the guy that married posh spice."

I also think that it is so that his wife or perhaps he can embark on a Hollywood career. When you're a millionaire, deals stop being about cash; it ends up being mainly about leverage, branding and positioning yourself with the right network of people.

Hello ? Top of his trade - get real ? He doesn't play because he's past it. The Real fans call him Forest Gump cause he only runs in straight lines. He brought our national team down, and we carried him for 2 years before he quit. Apart from spot kicks he's never been better than average - can't dribble, can't head, can't tackle, no self-control, not a leader by any accounts, couldn't control Rooney on the pitch.

Why would any English/Scottish team want to pay his demands ? To sell t-shirts - no way. The reason they didn't want him is because he's over-rated. Ferguson got rid because he thought he was bigger than ManU.

Entertainment is right for Becks - he's just an entertainer, knows a few tricks, married a wannabe. Hollywood is just right for him, but the £500 per week might have been a little incentive.

David Beckaham is already one of the biggest stars in the world today, the most photographed person and as for being a footballer couldn't get any bigger. The reason that he is coming to America is for the 128million pounds that he has been offered, besides LA Galaxy are really looking forward to him joining the club and he can only be an asset.
David Beckham is by the way already a multimillionaire.

He feels he has a mission to take football/soccer to the USA to educate the people about one of the greatest games in the world. The Yanks do not understand the strategy and tactics involved in football and find it difficult to understand that the smaller guy has as much chance of being a star as a giant. USA always thinks bigger is better but thats not the case.
There are millions of kids in USA who will want to emulate someone like Beckham and when the groundswell starts it will be difficult to stop. Money will then pour into the sport and it will take off.
Any intelligent Yanks will get in on the ground floor as there is a lot of money to be made in the future.
As far as Beckham is concerned, If I had his money and had the offer in front of me thats been made to him, I would jump at it.

He always gave good service to Man. Utd. and it was Fergusson who drove him out. You will never convince me he wanted to go. He then gave great service to Real Madrid until this year when they hired their own version of Fergusson who doesn't have the strength of character to deal with the superstars other than making life difficult for them.(Ronaldo on loan to Man Utd?).
As for England, anyone could see his legs were not as good as they used to be but 10 minutes of Beckham was usually good enough to save a game. What wing service has been given since? Ashley Cole is now the best winger or is that Whinger?
McClaren is another nobody who has failed to use what little resources we have left in England and Beckham would have been worthy of a place in any of his squads as they have so little courage for battle. At least Beckham tried to rally the troops!

because the US is a country known for fame hungry stars and to further expand the beckham brand. as for the idea that he is going there to make 'soccer' more popular as a sport in america is utter rubbish. it will never overtake the likes of basketball, baseball and american football in the popularity stakes, even with beckham on board. he's doing it for the money and so he, his wife and his kids can live in luxury beverly hills and hang out with their so- called showbiz pals. plus, the reason why he chose america is because none of the clubs in europe wanted him- they realise that beckham is past it as a player and is a liability. the yanks are welcome to the beckhams, seeing as most of us brits couldn't give a toss about them one way or another

Several factors; His wife's insistance, the cash, the lifestyle. It's a shame he didn't come back home for his FOOTBALL, yes FOOTBALL not soccer you yanks. It's all a bit mercenary to be honest, loads of cash for playing pub football, what a waste of talant. Football in the US will never be more than 3rd rate because the yanks can't stand playing physical games without armour plating so Becks can wind down his playing days without having to work too hard for his cash. The Americans only want him for his money spinning reputation.

Why not the US?
He has done the UK, Europe, and now has the opportunity to go to the States, If it was me I would go, just for the experience.
Everyone is slagging him for the move, but what should be remembered is that he has been invited to go, he didn't just land there and start hunting for a job. He has been offered an amazing opportunity and is going for it. How many of us would have said no?

Who cares about football - he is going to have the time of his life!

Plenty of better looking women is one reason, think of all the cheerleaders, and the glamorous porn stars who are going to be throwing themselves at him.

As for the wife, Americans aren't the slightest big interested in footballer's wives.
