Why is something so vast, so beautiful, so educational, brought down to the level of starlet's undergarments?

You're dealing with the human element, which is a diverse factor. You're dealing with the best and the worst of humanity, and you can't have it both ways. You can always set measures to control the internet, but in the end even knowledge will suffer, and it will be a venue for disinformation and exclusive, controlled ignorance just like television.

Internet is a free web that is open to anyone. Because it is international, it is very difficult to vote -and to enforce- any laws about Internet abuses, because when you're in India or Pakistan for example, no one can restrain you.
Internet is also very anonymous, which helps the "brave" to hide under pseudos or false Internet addresses.
Happily one exception seems to arise : paedophile networks are being identified and made harmless - just until the authors start another site. The best way to de-activate some abusing sites would be to use hackers, but that would be called an infringement to liberty of expression to the do-gooders.

Because people will always take advantage of a system that is as porrly regulated as the Internet is. Besides, what does it matter to you? It sounds as if you're too good to be asking questions on this forum, which it seems by your question, is an abuse of the vast beautiful cradle of knowledge.

That which we wish did not exist, we must name, validating its existence and forcing the realization into other's thought process, forcing them to acknowledge it, name it and continue the spiral.

We don't care about Donald Trump and Rosie Odonnell's spat, and the Media hates it as well, but due to pressure to not acknowledge it, they must acknowledge their wish to dismiss it, thersby acknowledging it. It is a vicious cycle of downward spiraling.

With so many forms of media, and so many forms of disinformation and so many skews on reality being portrayed on so many different venues...all that happens is a cycled repeat ad infinitum of everyones desire not to know something in their own skewed fragmentary knowledge lenses and then lo, the world we know is glorying in the information age, only to be disgusted, distorted, divided, and eventually destroyed be the disinformation that they so desired when seeking the truth of the matter in the first place about that which they knew not or were disgusted by.

Add to that the virtual prison of the average ignorant mind, and you have escapism running rampant with conspiracy and paparazzi media and BAM...in your face is the shaved crotch of a zooted Hotel heiress wannabe with little talent for anything except being hit one more time by a baby or a scandal or a husband of ill repute or no talent. All in all a sad state of affairs, whose driving engine is the porn industry. If that is the cradle of knowledge, then tell pandora she is a BEOTCH for opening the box.

Because of its total freedom and lack of controls. When a human being has total freedom and lack of controls it becomes abusive, first of itself and then to others. The Internet is nothing more than the total reflection of those who use it. Some use it beautifully, others abuse the privilege.
