I am not ticked. I think if he took the junk, it calls into question his integrity. If Rose is out, so is McGwire. He could hit the ball before the junk and put up very good numbers. He could have continued to do that and there probably would not have been a question if he went into the Hall. You can do something about it, ask the players to play fair. If not, don't play. Bonds and Sosa should not go into the Hall either.

What about the old school players who are in the Hall of Fame? They did it back in the day when the players played for the love of the game, and played on a team of teammates... not to hit home runs every time up to bat... The problem is with some of those old school guys and their records... If you let in a guy like Big Mac, or Barry people would be upset...
Either way you go, people will be upset... thats the bottom line.

I agree with your comment about "Having to Hit the Ball" The fact is that Mark McGwires overall #'s are not up to Hall of Fame standards. If Jim Rice isn't in yet, what makes McGwire better than him?

I was actually surprised that he got that many votes, I was actually hoping that he would get less than 5% and put a quick end to this soap opera.
I also doubt if beyond the hype and completely ignoring the requirement for character integrity and sportsmanship McGwire has actual HOF numbers
If you compare him to Reggie Jackson a player with a similarly abysmal BA - .262
Reggie has it all over Mac in almost all important areas
runs :RJ+ 384
H : RJ +758
2B: RJ+211
3B : RJ+43
HR: RJ-20
RBI : RJ +298
BA : RJ-.001
WSBA ; RJ .375 MMg .188
SB : RJ+ 216
Bottom line : If a player is going to get into the HOF with a .263 BA , he better be something really special; Jackson was, McGwire was not.

Since his retirement we have learned that he has compromised the integrity of the game and has made no effort to resolve unanswered questions. He will be out for a long time!

He cheated. He was rewarded with huge contracts, but he won't be rewarded with the Hall of Fame. Repeat after me, he cheated.

He took the "supplements"...so he could hit the ball...while others don't....and do just as well.
Why do you call them "so called"? Pete Rose is different; his actions did not alter his performance.
