Wow!!! You should get 10pts. for the best rant of the day. I'm impressed....and you are right...we are the UNITED STATES of AMERICA....but of course that is way too long for the linguistically challenged empty-suit, talking-heads on the airwaves over here, so it's just plain AMERICA...makes me want to barf, too, matey.
Beckham coming to LA? Big deal...he's a shell of his former self (although superior to the present talent in MLS), and besides, if European Football (I won't offend you by calling it soccer) is to ever catch on over here, we will have to have our own home-grown world class star first (and I mean someone about three quantum leaps better than Landon Donovan). Look, back in the mid-'70's, the New York Cosmos had Pele, Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, Vlady Bogicevic, Georgio Chinaglia, and Werner Roth, (all past their primes, I'll grant you...but still better than anything other team in the NASL could field) among others....They packed Giants' Stadium, won their championships, and after these superstars went their own ways, what happened? The NASL folded anyway. Beckham...big deal.
And finally, Christopher Columbus did not discover America...the Vikings were here long before 1492, along the coast of Canada and the New England States, and besides, the land wasn't exactly uninhabited in the first place (Can you say Iroquois, Cree, Sioux, Comanche, Arapahoe, Seminole, Nez Perce, Crow, Chicasaw, etc.)
