windows XP pro, 1.73ghz, intel centrino solo processor

You can stop this service as it is useless most of the time. It "Loads files to memory for later printing". For stopping this you can go to

control panel> administrative tools> services> Print Spooler

double click> startup type> change from Automatic to Manual. ok. Restart your PC manually and ur done.

spooler.exe is the print spooler. Did you install a printer recently? It might be an incorrectly installed driver. Reinstall the printer.

If not, does a reboot solve the problem?
If not, go into control panel > administrative tools > services. Look for the print spooler and restart it. Does this solve the problem?

If not, go to http://download.microsoft.com and find and download service pack 2 (for IT professionals). This is a large download, install it and follow the instructions onscreen.

If that doesn't fix the problem I am out of ideas ;)

spooler.exe is well documented as memory leak program!

search microsoft for a fix... uninstall all printers that are not used and use only the correct drivers for the printer u are using...
