Don't laugh, but I live in an old house with possibly two outlets per room, if lucky. My kitchen has one outlet for small appliances. Whenever I bake a cake and use the mixer, I have to run an extension cord into my living room. Seriously, we have six rooms and 11 outlets total.

im at work right now and im not counting the ones here but id say on average everyone has about 2 in the bedrooms 4-6 in the living room 3-4 in the dining room 4-6 in the kitchen and 4 in the garage - which depending on the size of your house is about what everyone else saying
