Life in India changed dramatically with the coming of European colonizers in the 16th century. Although not the first or the last European power in India (the Portuguese hold both titles), the British had the most profound influence. Over 300 years, a period called The Raj, the British introduced legal, educational, political, industrial and transportation systems that shaped modern India. The British profited from the use of taxes and trade monopolies that left India's textile and other established industries seriously weakened. Perhaps most significantly, the British introduced the widespread use of English and public education.

India was never actually “colonized” in the literal sense. The British East Indies Companies brought a semblance of order to a fractured subcontinent in the seventeenth century and profited from their effort. In the twentieth century the British government, having inherited jurisdiction of the areas that were to become known as Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, granted sovereignty to the territories. Gandhi facilitated the transition and was assassinated for his efforts. Go figure…

actual the chilly harsh reality is that britain has been colonizing the entire planet for over 500 years. there is hardly a continent they have not colonized element of and maximum of those places nonetheless go in the course of the genocidal outcomes of colonization. They began with eire and Scotland and characteristic lengthy previous on to the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Asia, etc. etc. etc. and also have taken their toll on many Islands and the Indigenous human beings and existence of those islands and all the places they have colonized. They do it because of greed and searching for worthwhile metals which includes gold and silver, etc. and worthwhile stones and jewels also spices and medicinal vegetation, sparkling cutting forests for timber and drilling/digging for fossils fuels. Britain hasn't led to all of this destruction on my own they have had help from different eu international locations like spain, france, and others. Colonization by technique of europe has led to massive holocausts via their genocidal acts. An anticipated 30 to one hundred million community American lives were lost via their colonization in north usa on my own.

The Mughals, The British, The French and the Portugese. there were invasions before the Mughals too but they didn't settle down. For example, Alexander invaded and conquered many kings but went back.
Read Indian History for more details, maps of different times etc. I have given a brief answer. If I knew your purpose, I could provide a more detailed answer or advise you about the needed references.
