3 weeks ago I had my gall bladder removed, which wound up being open surgery. I have a 10 inch cut across the right side of my upper abdomen, stapples just came out last thursday. Today my daughter was in her room and I heard her tv fall and she started screaming. I automatically jumped up out of my chair to run in there to make sure she was okay - I had my feet propped up and I twisted my body to the left without even pushing the stool away, ever since I have been in alot of pain - and is hard for me to move around (this happend about 6 hours or so ago). I was just wondering if it would be possible for my incision to tear open from the inside, not the outside....I can't get ahold of anyone at the hospital to answer my question, so I figured I'd give Yahoo Answers a shot. Also, I have been on LorTab 5/500 for pain, and since my second bottle my feet and hands have been itching like crazy, anyone know what it could be?..Itching just started when I started on bottle 2, not 1..thanks!!!

Your incision has very likely healed, but that doesn't mean it's up to that kind of stress without raising a complaint. The itching you are describing could well signal an allergic reaction to the LorTabs you are taking. Allergic reactions can occur at anytime you take medications- though the first is more likely, it can happen after the 20th. You really should go to the Emergency room for a full evaluation. Take the medication with you, but don't take any more until you speak with the doctor. They can give you something else for the pain and for the allergic reaction. It's important you get evaluated before you take any more of the LorTabs because if it is a true allergic reaction, it can and will get worse.

It sounds like you aggravated the muscles rather than tore open the wound. Your abdominal wall muscles are weakened now from the surgery and lack of use, so they are more prone to irritation and stretching will cause the type of pain that you described. Things you might watch for include firmness or distention of your abdomen, especially around the incision site, nausea, projectile vomiting, dizziness or drainage from the incision site. If you experience any of those things, you need to go and be checked right away.

If you dont have those symptoms, but the area is still tender, use a heating pad to alleviate the discomfort. you may have developed a sensitivity to the Lortab from taking it for over 2 weeks. Take some over the counter benadryl to get rid of the itching. Also, be sure you are drinking at least 10 glasses of water each day. Lortab can dry out your skin and cause constipation too. good luck.

I doubt you reopened the incision, you body is amazing at repairing itself. You may have moved something the wrong way in that area. If it keeps hurting go to the emergency room and don't take pain medication for this because it might desguise it if you have a problem.
I'm sorry if some of the writing makes no sense, I am very tired. I ho[e you ge the point.

Definitely. You saw the surgeon to have the staples removed? Have you seen the surgeon since? I'd get in there before the weekend.
