me personally, i breastfeed with the ocasional bottle supplement, she prefers the boobie milk though. and my doctor has told me to continue this until she's a year old. but me and a friend who has an older 10mo baby where speculating on how old her lil one should be before she takes his bottle away? he drinks out of a sippy cup. i wasn't able to advise her because my lil one is only 6mo and doesn't usually take a bottle. any suggestions out there for my friend?

If the child is capable of using a sippy cup successfully without excessive spills or a lot of frustration and tears, then there is no particular reason why he shouldn't have the sippy cup rather than a bottle. If he's already mastered the use of the cup, all the better, it's a developmental milestone already reached.
Speaking anecdotally, most parents I know begin using sippy cups after the first birthday, when babies can begin to drink cow milk rather than formula. And waiting to that point is also perfectly okay. It's really up to each child, and when they have the motor skills necessary to manage a cup, especially with the added weight of the liquid inside.

They recommend you start introducing the sippy cup at 6 months of age to help wean away from the bottle at 12 months of age. The bottle should be stopped after age 12 months -18 months of age
By 9 months of age your child should be offered some formula or breast milk from a cup before breast or bottle feedings.
A baby younger than 6 months needs a bottle and not a cup since babies cannot drink well enough from a cup at this age to get enough nourishment.
Hope this helps out some ;)

Wait until at least 12 months. Then try to wean from the bottle. I wouldn't wait long after 12 months before starting though because I found it a lot harder to take the bottle away once they're older.

Most people take their children off the bottle, when the child begins walking. Many pediatricians recommend that you take your baby off of the bottle by 12 months of age. At 12 months, it is nutritionally safe to take a child off of formula or breast milk and put him/her on whole milk (not 2% or less)

A baby needs to be on a bottle formula till they are at least 12 months. Once they start eating finger foods their need for the formula will go down but they still need the formula.

I had similar dilemma when my children were young. Depends on your culture plus childs needs. Let child/children under 6 yrs. old have the bottle for as long as child needs. It helps them feel better. Just minimize the drinks sugar content to avoid tooth decay plus other medical problems like obesity.By the time they start school a bottle will be history. Tip when child is ready (can hold a cup) encourage/teach child to drink with a toddler safe cup whenever possible. Always provide positive feedback & support to child about the whole issue as a family.

My doctor told me to take my daughter off of the bottle and formula at 12 months so on her first birthday I cut the bottle out.

kids normally like to have the bottle.... if he can sip from the sipping cup it is great. but it is still ok. my friend's kid is 2 and she still have a bottle... the contents change. now she is having normal milk in it rather than formula or breast milk.
