Before the final descent to the ocean floor, the position of the submarine with respect to sea level (regarded zero) was: -500-650+350-340+150 = - 990 feet.
So the final descent was from 990 feet below the surface to 1200 feet below the surface , that is, 210 feet. Answer.

-500 -650 +350 -340+150 - x = -1200
-990 -x = -1200
-x = -210
x = 210

The final descent was 210 Feet
