I have played, admired, and respected soccer all my life. How do you (football loving people of other countries) feel about the best football player in the world being bought out by a country (let alone city) that couldn't care less about the sport?...

Wow...um...ok, I'm going to give the best argument to Armyguy. Although he stated facts that I (as well as everyone else here) knows, he failed to give me a thought-provoking response. I must say, I am more than dissapointed with all these responses...

Ouch, sorry guys. I know you love your soccer abroad, as do I, but the correct answer is.... "Nothing is EVER going to bring Americans around on soccer. The amount we like it right now is the amount we will always like it." Hmmmmm, now who gets the gravy?....

i think this will bring more exposure to the game in LA now that this high profile player is on his way there. it's a smart move for david in terms of money and maybe getting into the limelight in the US and become a celeb there.

Well to tell you the truth, Beckham is not really even close to being the best player in the world. Until his recent retirement, Zinedine Zidane was the the God of soccer. Know days, we still have Ronaldo (Brazil), Patrick Vieira (France), Ondonkor(Germany, only twenty two years old, who was playing at the age of 18 at Borussia of Dortmund)), Ballack (Germany), Tierry Henry (France, who by the age of seventeen played for Monaco), Materazzi (Italy: even though he got his *** beat by Zidane in the world cup), Podolski (Germany), Klose (Germany), are just a few of the players off of the top of my head that have by far much better statistics. Beckham, is not a bad player, that is not what I am saying, but let's face it, he is much more Hollywood than anything else. He was a little known when he was younger, but really hit the spot light only after he married Victoria from the Spice Girls. And then he remained in the spotlight, due to the numerous affairs he has had, then it was the whole Tom Cruise thing, and still is. Him going to the U.S. is not a bad thing. i am an American, and from the bottom of my heart, I can tell you that it will not make anyone sad to see him go. And who knows, it might even teach him to appreciate the European League a little more.

It would be better if the Galaxy spent their money on an up and comer instead of a has-been. Now that LA has Beckham I'm sure other MLS teams will take a look at Ronaldo and other big names. Somebody must care about soccer in the US-money talks, bullshit walks.

I think they'll sell more jersey than ever.
Beckham's star won't shine much longer in America. In fact, he's pretty close of achieving nothing right now. But moving to America is better than staying in Spain (which I think is his biggest mistake in the first place). And I must disagree about him being the best football player. Other than brilliant freekicks and crossings, he can't do pretty much else. He'll be the best in America, though, and that's about it.

Some of us may be indifferent, but there are certainly fans of the beautiful game here. Old traditions die hard, and lots of the 40 yrs+ old people here never even played soccer, so they don't understand it. Even professional sports "journalists" are sometimes known to casually dismiss the whole sport.

I'm happy to see Beck come--it'll bring the league more attention.

Beckham is going to raise the popularity of football in America. He will finish what Pele started.
