is there anyway tht i dont have to change the ip configuration when i move from work to home and vice versa?

before you go to work disable the connection.
when you get to work - create network connection - use the settings you usually change to.
after you are connected and the network connections window is open and showing the 2 icons, maybe local one and two.
right click the one that is connected at work and rename it 'work'
and rename the other one 'home'.
then all you have to do is enable and disable the appropriate connection depending on your location.

You have a static IP defined or some other static data in your network connection.

Right click on your network connection icon and select properties. Makes ure that your TCP/IP setup requests DHCP service from the network. (assign address automatically) and take all defaults.

Your router at home should be serving you an address as well as the system you connect into at your work.

Remember that your system remembers and caches info about the last subnet it was on, so when you switch systems, just repair the network connection (right click connection icon) or use the command prompt to do an:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

This will save alot of time.
