The first part I would say yes to. As for the second part, perhaps one could judge life in the evening of life, but I think critical thinking is severely diminished by the dark night time of death. Finding good take-out is tough enough. Anyway, the only Judgement after departure from this life to be concerned about is the Judgement of Jesus Christ.

I think you have to be exposed to the bad and the good before you can sit back and decide what truely is good and bad. People judge on the level where they are at. A 20 year old see's things differently than a 70 year old. Call it life experience.
