I wish there was a way to tell whether the start in the sky still exist. Some of these stars are millions of light years away. DOnt you think that some of them would be dead by now and we are just waiting to see them dissapear?

All the stars you can see with the naked eye still exist! They're all relatively close to us, so we're seeing even the most distant ones as they were only a few thousand years ago. Yes, stars do die, but they give plenty of warning that it's going to happen and all the naked eye stars are in good health, with millions if not billions of years left in them.

The light from stars in other galaxies takes millions of years to get to us, so some of them will have died, but none of them is visible to the naked eye.

The exact number can't be known. There are stars that are dying and more than are becoming stars. Of course there are stars that long ago burned out and became supernovas. They are just so far away the light from them is still streaming toward us. For instance the star that exploded and made the Crab Nebula was noticed about 600 ad. But in reality it exploded millions of years prior.

They are still counting. When the Hubble space telescope was pointed at a dark patch of space and was left at this point for some time faint images of galactic systems became seen, the light is still just getting here. Every second of every day we see more of the universe in which we reside

yes some of them are already dead, but many new ones are being born. The univers is something that humans have not as yet get into deep contact with. and it is good that the univers is still a big question. we have destroyed earth and entered mars.... let us just leave the univers a bit alone.
