At 13 it was all about me - what kind of person I wanted to be, whether I was thin enough, whether my hair was good enough, imagining how much better I'd feel when I was (for some reason) 15, what boy I liked and what boy my girlfriend like and what boys liked us, and me, me, me, me, me. (Of course, I never forgot how important my family was to me, but it took a backseat in my day-to-day thoughts.) Another issue was how much my parents would let me do, and whether I'd sneak or issues such as certain types of make-up.
What is important to me now is my children, even though they're pretty much grown. What goes on in the world, the state of education, my work, my house, my friends, my plans, my health and the health of my family, history, science, and any number of other things. I do, of course, still worry that my hair is right and whether I'm thin enough and whether my make-up is right.
I would compare it this way: At 13 it was as if I held all the things I was interested in in one small building block, and all the things I was interested in were pretty much my little concerns about who I was, would be, and appeared to be. As the years have passed, life has given me one building block after another after another. I now have a castle made of those blocks, and that original, single, little, block is still down there in the corner of the foundation; but it is now one, small, not-all-that-important block among thousands of other, more significant, ones that make up what I think is important and what I am.

This is really sad but at 13 what was important to me was going to bed at night and never waking up again. I was being sexually abused by my step-father at the time. And important to me now is that i ploughed on and am now a mother to a great 2 year old son with another on the way and a fantastic b/f who i love dearly and who is proving to me that not all men are bad. Although i finally tracked down my real father about 10 years ago found out that he sexually abused my step and half sister too. Does it ever frickin end.

At 13, boys, make up and being "popular" was important to me...
Now, I am 20 and I have matured so much. I have high goals set for myself- finishing school and start a new career. I dont care about being "popular" because you have to live for what you think is important, not what everybody else says is important!!!

at age 13 i was concerned about fitting in with the in crowd. things like fashion, my hair, meeting cute guys, friends, and freedom to party as i wanted to were important to me. now the most important things to me are getting my degree and getting a better job so that i can take care of my mom who is a very sick woman (heart problems) and making it to heaven. how about you?

Now, the opposite sex is still interesting but not a big deal anymore. ..
