That's the purpose of being invisible...so that you cannot check.
On the other hand, if you don't see it, it is in invisible mode.

Dude, they're in invisible mode because they don't want you to check.

Not sure what you mean. On IM??? You'll see their status beside their name--if that's what you're referring to! You can still send a message, & they can pick it up when they're not "invisible." (I've never seen a choice for "invisible" however!
Just "busy", "away from desk"....)
