In many cases, in America, if a man marries a woman from another country (& vice versa), that woman becomes a citizen of the USA. How would this apply to an alien (ET)?

As far as I know (let me know if I'm wrong), there is no laws prohibiting the lawful union of an Alien and a Earthling. Therefore, I would think that citizenship would be in order after the Alien was here for the predetermined time (5 years I think) to qualify. Additionally, the Alien would most likely qualify for various grants and allowances to be able to function in a near normal way of life as so long that the Alien maintains a world of residency here on Earth. Also, the Alien would most likely be able to explain, once and foreall, Area 51 and how the government has been avoiding the subject for decades.

I don't think the law as currently written would recognize the alien person as a citizen. You would have to go to court and try to set a precedent.

But what kind of idiot would come from a race advanced enough to travel the cosmos to get here, and marry somebody here to try to become a citizen in a country (and on a planet) where everything is screwed up and we can't even be nice to one another most of the time. This must be an alien retard you're talking about.

Nope - you do NOT get automatic citizenship. You have to go through the whole green card process.

It took my sister-in-law 5 years to become a US citizen after she married my brother. That's about average.

And, you have to want to become a citizen. Many people marry without doing this for a variety of reasons.

I'm pretty sure that legally you are only allowed to marry humans. Otherwise you would probably end up with weirdos trying to marry dogs and things like that.
