If you're not very sure about parking... Find a large space and drive in forwards.
If you park on a hill turn the steering wheel so that the front tyre is touching the kerb so if the handbrake fails it will stay where it is and won't roll anywhere.

There are many ways. It depends on what kind of parking you are talking about. If you don't know I'd suggest a valet then all you need do is push on the break so you come to a stop next to someone who takes parking so seriously they do it for a living. Either that or they can't be bothered to get a proper job!

european styles vary. italians put front wheels on kerb/sidewalk and rear wheels in the road.
french don't park they just abandon them.
us brits create a space by pushing the surrounding cars further apart untill there is enough room for their car.
germans do it precisley and orderly.
swiss do it neatly andin a timley manner.
spanish so it at the nearest beach or bar.
dusth do it cycle racks
and easten europeans do it in britain

push on the brakes until it comes to a complete stop them put in park or set the e-brake, turn it off, and get out
