Ok I'm 13 and I go to bed whenever I want. I only have to get enough sleep for school. On the other hand my 13 year old boyfriend is babied by his mom and MUST be in bed with his head on his pillow at 8:30 on school nights. I've been told that most boys his age rebel if babied that way but he doesnt seem to mind and is really attentive to his mother. (Sometimes my mom will joke with me and tell me that she's going to trade me for Jamie lol lol). Sometimes on weekends he stays over my house (he sleeps in my little brother's room on a fulton) and when 8:30 rolls around his eyes are already closing. When he sleeps he sleeps like a log and NOTHING can wake him up. What happens when he turns 18 will he still be going to bed at 8:30 pm?

I love all the answers (well most anyway lol) so I can't choose best answer. Oh ya some people wondered if maybe it isnt a good idea for him to sleep over my house on weekends (and I promise you he sleeps lol). He's the perfect gentleman. That doesn't mean he isn't ALL BOY. He is if you know what I mean. Anyway my mom and dad like him a lot and think of him as a second son. He volunteers to help my mom with chores around our house and puts me to shame. My little brother loves him and Jamie plays with him and pals around with him. I usually don't have enough time alone with him to get in trouble. Anyway I'm going to let all of you pick the best answer.

when you aren't 'burning the midnight oil' studying or partying, everyone has to get enough sleep to make it through the next day. Some people require less than others. If it takes going to bed at 8:30......well, it just does.
I know people in their forties who have to get up at 5 am and they go to bed between 8:30 and 9 pm. You have to know what your responsibilities are and part of that is knowing when you need to sleep. It's not being babied, it's just a simple matter of how much sleep you need and when you need to be up in the morning.

well i'll be 18 in 5 months, and my mom still has a say when i go to bed. of course she's resonable, I just think it depends on the way the kid is parented as to what time they have to be in bed. Obviously going to bed and sleeping my 8:30 works for him, and obviously just getting enough sleep for school works for you. But I don't think he's babied too much, to be able to sleep at your house.
And no I don't think he'll be in bed sleeping by 8:30 when he's 18, lol.

Does your boyfriend have a problem with this? Does he think his mom is babying him? If he's falling alseep at your house by 8:30 then it sounds like he needs the sleep. I doubt he will do this when he's 18.

I'm sure when he's 18 his sleeping habits will change. his mom is doing the right thing by him. he sleeps well enough for his body and mind to stay healthy. He'll probably be sick less than you are, and make better grades than you do, and in general be a happier person. and no offense, but what the **** is your mom thinking? She must want grandkids really badly.

Some kids finction better at night than others. My son is fourteen, and quite independent but when it comes to a bedtime I have to put my foot done or he CANNOT function in the mornings.
He is usually ready for bed at 7.30pm,and he begins winding down to be in bed by 9.00pm and asleep by 9.30pm,he has asked for a later bedtime in the past,we experimented and it just didn't work for him,he really needs his sleep.
My two older daughters were the same and they are now both in college and doing fine...no rebellions yet. they go to bed later now but of course they are up later too-you adapt to what your bidy needs

I think it depends on the kid, one kid may stay up all night while others (like you it sounds like) know how much sleep you need and you go to bed at a decent time. I wasn't able to go to bed when ever I wanted to at all during school year but during the summers we could go to bed anytime at age 10.

First of all your mother is crazy because you should not be dating at the age of13 and having boys spend the night at your house. I don't care if he is staying in your brother's room that's just a bit over the top.

I'm a parent of a 5 month old daughter and when she gets older and can show me that she can get up and ready to go to school on time with out and arguing then i will let her go to bed when ever she wants. It depends on how responsible u show your parents that you can be.

lol-my son is 18 months old now and i let him clunk out whenever he gets tired enough-i mean its not like he has school or anything-I don't believe in bedtimes, my mother and father never did it with me. And when he is old enough and in school-as long as he is getting up and going then it's fine, people sleep when they get tired enough. His mom sounds controlling-I would tell him to stick up to her!

some people need more sleep than others. Sleep is a key factor in health. Sounds to me like your boyfriends mom knows what she is doing.
