The $250M is not about skill on the pitch. In fact, I would argue that he's not really being paid to be a football player, he's being paid to be the face of Major League Soccer.

So, from the MLS perspective...one of the most recognizable people in the world is now the face of your organization. $250M doesn't seem such a steep price for that kind of global popular exposure.

Thierry Henry is a fantastic player, but he does not have the pop culture clout like Beckham does.

I disagree. I think Beckham is still worth more, although Thierry may be a better player, in my opinion. This is because Beckham knows how to market himself commercially to the point that the Beckhams have become a brand.

The Beckhams are friends are the "right" people, the have commercial endorsements with large corps, they keep up appearences very well, they have other cashflow businesses/investments and they have great networking skills.
Beckham has simply marketed himself well enough that now his name is as good as any good, famous or popular brand. Beckham has used himself as an excellent financial and lucrative brand.

His move to LA is excellent because he no longer needs to prove that he can play soccer well; everyone knows he can. I'm sure he's not moving for the money, either, although it's a hack of a lot. Beckham is worth more than 250 million dollars. He's probably moving to LA to expand the Beckham brand.

worth???? a lot! Millions of Euros in Europe.

What would he get in the US????

A couple of bucks and a bucket of snails.

And he'd have to carry ID at all times -- just to make sure security would let him in the stadium. No one here would know or care who he is, unless he married a SPICE GIRL too!

Not would...not in America.

But should, yes. Henry has more ability in his left pinkie toe. England and Madrid dont want him anymore.
