is it against my rights not to communicate with a child in jail?

even children don't have to accept calls and letters, just as you don't. and if you are part of the problem, then definitely, the child doesn't have to see you.However, if you are refusing to communicate with your child, what does that say about your parenting and how much you love your child.

It depends on if he is allowed to communicate with the outside world. It's not on your side.
