It is not Illegal to cary large sums of money on your person, up to ten thousand dollars. ten thousand and one dollars or more it becomes illegal. It's just not smart unless it's " protected " but even at that there are always cetain factors of risk involved. Besides it is the best way for the police to conduct illegal search and seisures, based on probable cause because of the money. the average person can carry between five and six hundred without much suspicion.

It is not illegal but it is suspicious. I would never carry more than 2k on me in cash. That isn't real smart. Get a cashier's check from the bank. Why is that so hard??

Transporting any more than 20k internationally is considered trafficking. Exporting large sums of money causes hell on the economy, it happens in 3rd world countries a lot. And you are not allowed to import large sums of money to discourage counterfeiting.

I don't see why you would ever want to. Cash is easily stolen, cannot be traced, and is not replaceable. It would seem to be a very unintelligent idea to carry something like $20,000 in cash on you. It is much safer to put it in a bank and use a check card.
