Wales and Scotland have both HAD Devolution for EIGHT YEARS!!! Where have you been? Scotland has a Parliment and Wales has an Assembly Government.
But I live in Wales, and I see Welshmen everywhere supporting England, when England plays against other parts of Europe, so I think your perception is not completely accurate. (There are St. George cross flags flying in a Welsh houses' windows across the street, right now.)
The Welsh consider themselves 1) Welsh; 2) British; 3) European -- question is -- do the English put up Welsh flags when Wales plays Italy in Rubgy, etc.? I seriously doubt it.
Good question!

It's not that Scotland hates England. It's that the English are so lazy they can't even sort out a written constitution for their own country. That's bad news for democracy. And, after a few centuries of the same tired system of the status quo we think (in Scotland, at least) that democracy is about government by the people and FOR the people. You might try this novel idea in England some time. Then you would appreciate other nations more.

It's time Scotland was completely independent from England. We don't want you sponging off us and you don't want all your leaders to be Scottish, as they are now. The act of union has run it's course and now the English have bled us dry they are looking to drop us. And about time. I like the English as a race, but as a colonial power I hate them, and I'll never be truly happy until the English are required to present a passport when entering our great land.

I agree, since 1997 I have wondered the same thing. I refer to the disunited kingdom, or the disfunctional kingdom or the crumbling kingdom. But this collection of nations cannot be accurately called the united kingdom anymore. I refer to myself as British or English, but not as a citizen of the United Kingdom.

It certainly appears the the Scots and Welsh appear not to like us. They want to be independent countries. They want to self rule.
I say let them. They think they can survive and be better off without England, I would gladly give them their freedom.
See how long they last without the NHS, social security, education and everything else that is provided by our government.
I'm pretty sure that England produces more tax per person then either of those countries.
