She's made a few guest apperances since she left, and its very obvious they have feelings for eachother, they're just too young to realize! I like the couple of Misty and Ash, May and Ash...eh...they're not the same, and hikari reminds me of May...so Misty.

Probably, far as I know, she's still a popular character.
For your second question, they're 10 years old, they have enough on their minds as they try to orchestrate their fuzzy pitfights. Romance does not need to become a factor.
