To a certain extent yes because isolationism wasn't a fabulous idea the first time around.

I dont really care what the rest of the world thinks of america, just like the rest of the world doesnt care about what we think of them.

No, i care what America thinks of the rest of the world. That`s more important because when America acts, the world trembles.

I think America this time round fares MUCH BETTER globally than America during the Vietnam war era (Pres Nixon, Johnson) because it is acting pro-actively to fight a common threat bent on destruction of our core values.

If the threat (spread of Islamo fundamentalism) is left unchecked globally, if the next US President do a Clinton, if the American people insist on keeping the troops at home... then we in the free world outside America are in for one hellava roller coaster ride.

There may be many in the world today who think that the traditional core values of your founding fathers have been eroded by those elected to safeguard it; but I have faith (still) that the great majority of Americans will continue to cherish those common values.

This is far more complex than meets the eye----
and, as far as this thought line goes---personally--
It is a great deal like it is with my Friendships and acquaintances
in life------I care greatly that people like me and approve and will go to some lengths to show that I care that they care----BUT---there are definate limits to How far I'll go for their approval and once DISRESPECTED for whatever reason-- that's it--thank you very much !!
So---It does matter to me that the various peoples of the world feel good about America---and know that the people here are really, at heart, caring for and about them (No matter what a particular administration is reflecting to them)-----But---if they are set and determined to disrespect us or are dead set against us -- I'm not about to start lining up for wholesale consessions to please and solicit their approval !!!!
The U S has, simply by the nature of things, garnered an awful lot of hatred against it through the decades--- a lot of this comes from any number of sources such as outright jeleousy of our successes and affluence---and our power and position within the world--AND---granted a lot of it has points to be made for some of it comes from America's own fault in the sense that our own citizens and various administrations have over and over again represented our interests within the world from a position of BULLY BUTT IGNORANCE !!!
But, when is the world to learn that the actions of a particular government at any given time is not necassarily a fully blown reflection of the people of that country ?? And, why is it that we ourselves have the tendencies of naming off a list of our enemies in terms of countries or nationalities with absolutely NO regard for the tens of thousands of individuals IN that country that have absolutely NO affinaty for their country's government's stand on ANYTHING let alone any particular miff WE might have against them ??
It is MORE than good that we care and make effort FOR friendship----it is also MORE than simply wise to know WHEN to stop caring all that much and start dealing with the situations caused by people when their simple displeasure with you turns into outright hatred and brings the actions associated with that !!!

Yes, how we present ourselves to the world is how they treat us. The more we do to benefit the world, the more they will in turn do to benefit us. Having a bad world approval of our country ruins our social, military, and economic standings throughout the world.

a little yes and alot no. yes bc the more people that hate you the harder your life gets, but on the other hand... i dont care what they think. do they think im scared of them... HA. i aint scared of anyone. what does it matter what THEY think anyways? everyone is entitled to their opinion... even if its wrong. would you rather fear the world or have the world fear you? i prefer the latter. i dont give a good gorram what they think.

On a political scale, yes.

But if it were just me, I wouldn't give a d*mn anymore. We've helped out so many countries and still have nothing to show for it. Not even a freaking thank you.

It just kinda scares me what certain parts of the world think of America and what they want to do to us because of it. Sometimes I wish I could tell them, it's Bush, not us!!
