Oxygen dissolves steel

Also, a lot of acids dissolve steel - sulfuric is the most commonly used - however it takes a long time, usually you have an 'acid bath' which you leave steel in to remove oxides and impurities - eventually it would dissolve all the steel.

it can be prepared by adding 1part of concentrated hydrochloric acid(HCl) with 3 parts of concentrated nitric acid(HNO3)
