Griffith Park is probably your best bet. There's a number of trails you can take there.

Hi - I promise I'm not just trying to promote my blog, but I have a blog called "Hiking L.A." that lists a lot of good hikes in the area. I also have links to other hiking sites that should help.
Specifically, I would recommend the hike to Sandstone Peak on the Mishe Mokwa trail. It takes you to the highest point in the Santa Monica Mountains and gives you a great view of the ocean.
A good book about hiking SoCal is "Trails of the Angeles."
It's hard to recommend a hike without knowing how strenous/long you want the hike to be. Check out my blog and the links and hopefully you should find something good!
