I believe that our lives shape us. Like a coloring book, the bold outline is made without our doing prior to birth. However, what's inside us, is what forms the details of our lives and "colors" it in. There are many things we do, and therefore experience, through our lifetimes that shapes us. The intial process is shaped by what we are born into.

We shape our lives. Our lives do not or cannot shape us. How would our life shape us? It does not have a conciousness to do so. Our conciousness is what shapes us.
