The answer is Intel if you want the fastest right now. There is no competition at the moment.

You'll want an Intel Core 2 Duo. They go as low as $190 on Newegg.com, and they will outperform almost anything AMD has and absolutely everything Intel had before C2D. Yes, I just said a $190 CPU will beat a $900 CPU (P4 965 EE) by a huge margin. It's true. However, if you can't spend $190, get an AMD becasue any Intel besides Core 2 Duo sucks (they are part of the Netburst architecture). Make sure you don't get Core Duo and Core 2 Duo mixed up.

Intel is the best and will continue to hold the market for along while.

The Intel Dual-Core series is general best value.

Intel Core 2 Duo - best value
Intel Core 2 Extreme for gamers
Intel Core Quad - server and hard core graphic designers

They provide 1 year warranty on parts and systems.

They will design a custom Intel system for you at a reasonable price for USA clients.

* AMD at its best held only 22 percent of the market in CPU sales... There is a reason for it -

* Intel new Core 2 and 4 series - reliable, fast, and untouchable by AMD.

I prefer Intel now than AMD which I like before. It seems that the AMD CPU heat much quicker than Intel. Undoubtly the AMD CPU is much cheaper but I think Intel is winning in time. More Cache, more speed, more thread.

For Laptop? I just like Intel.

Dashes' answer is somewhat untrue.

The new Core 2 Duo processors are a lot faster than the AMD dual processors.

For gaming, get an AMD. For multimedia content work (video editing or multimedia encoding/decoding), get Intel.

If you live in Singapore, you can head down to Sim Lim Square to purchase your parts.

If you live in the US, try Newegg.

For guides on parts to buy, surf over to Anandtech at www.anandtech.com and look under their Guides section. They've always got a monthly column on recommended setups to purchase. It's pretty helpful IMHO.

Hope it helps.

AMD is what you will want to go with.Go to www.newegg.com
or www.tigerdirect.com
you may want to look on www.zipzoomfly.com
GOOD LUCK
i would just wait for a while like 6 months or so.AMD may have a new CPU out that is a comp for the Intel.if not the Intel prices will be down by then by a little.

intel for laptops, amd for desktops. AMD's desktop/workstation processors are MUCH faster than intel's. but intel's mobile processors blow AMD's out of the water in both preformance and battery life
