1. MUL was a dream of late Sanjay Gandhi, son of late Indira Ganndhi , that, the every common man should have a car.
2. I think the first Maruti 800 was launched somewhere in 1986.
3. It was a collabration between Indian Govt. & Suzuki.
4. Now , it is wholy owned by Suzuki & sahreholdres.
5. Maruti driven common man's purchasing interest towards car.
6. Also, Maruti started a competiotion between Fiat owned by Premier Auto Ltd., and Ambasidor owned by Hindustan Motors.
Also, between the three, Maruti developed new models , technology very fast.
7. At present Maruti has the maximum share in Car market with a good resale value.
8. The CMD is Mr. Jagdish Khattar.

To sell more cars where there is volume and scale in the business, by sourcing the designs from Suzuki? They cover the entire lower segment in this order

M800
Alto
Zen Estilo (for Women) - old Suzuki MR Wagon
WagonR (for men and small families) - now modified for India
Swift
Esteem

and dabble a bit in the premium segment with
Baleno

They have tried to get into the semi high end SUV segment with,
Grand Vitara but have hardly sold any as the perception is that Suzuki does not make performance vehicles

The main marketing strategy of MUL is to increase the demand among middle class sector of society. MUL has succesfully taped the middle class to increase the so called status i.e. from two wheeler to fourr wheel.

quality wise they are quit good and they fix the price as low as the common men can buy.they make good models of car and in these days lot of traffic on roads the small size cars can very easily find out the way

Keep low affordable prices,increase in quantity,(wider customer base),customer satisfaction these are broad marketing principles of Maruti.Those have been successful
