Yes. All the time. Here is my personal explanation for that phenomenon:

When you go to the movies, you are seeing the film with a whole group of people. The people you go with, as well as all the strangers around you. When everyone is laughing together it makes the funny parts seem that much funnier....when everyone screams, it makes the scary scenes seem all the scarier.

Yeah, But for me it has to do with the surround sound. The speakers at the movies are a whole lot better than what you could have at home. Plus no noise pollution tickets for it being loud.
