It is not A since they all were expansionist in regards to foreign policies.
As for B, Germany and Italy were allies, and Soviet Union allied Germany for a while.
It is possibly C since Germany and Italy were for, and in fact a bit supported by, the Catholic Church (religion being the most fundamental aspect of civil society, citizen's lives).
As for D, Russia does not apply since the Soviet Union retained power due to lack of civil society in Russian's history.
I've never heard of E being an actuality. Formal alliance, yes, by against "laissez-faire liberal capitalism", definitely not. European countries weren't all that "laissez-faire liberal capitalist", and neither was the U.S., considering WWII is very soon after the Great Depression.
Since the teacher probably doesn't know much about the sociology and political science of the regimes, I would lean towards C first with D in close second, then if not that, B. Either way, honestly speaking, it doesn't seem that any of them are correct.

I think this is a trick question for they are all applicable to the totalitarianist thing, in those particular countries. Each were different. And indifferent therefore held disdain for each other as well. And some did A, B, C, D and E, But I will say C and D is the right answers in combo, charisma in a way for hitler, but not mussolini, they both got their power from Brut force. And they both wanted to control the live and death of people.
