Forgive me for this question- but I never went into labor with my first born- I was at 42 weeks and I was induced and never experienced any of these things.
So I am 36 weeks right now with this pregnancy- and about a week and a half ago I could def. tell baby had dropped. The pressure down there is awful! Anyways my question though- I can't remember if my OB told me to count the "menstraul pain" cramping as contractions- or not too. I have an appt in the morning- so will ask. I remember with first when i was induced having these cramping feelings at first- Are they just braxton hicks? I'm only getting them once or twice every hour (the menstraul cramping pains) but they are pretty strong and I can def feel them in my back (my first pregnancy was ALL back labor) and i can def tell my uterus is getting tighter. please spare me the "omg go to the ER now" comments- i know to call the OB when i'm having 6 or more contractions in an hour...

I would count the braxton hicks as well. There is no reason not to.

This is your second child you will know when to call the doctor. Like you already said 6 or more is what this doctor told you. So go with his wishes. If he feels you need to be checked he will tell you so. No worries, hun I am sure you will only call him if you feel the need.
Plus the journaling of the contractions will help you in future births... at least gives you the joy while looking back on it.

Good luck hun

no-you do not count the braxton hicks
real contractions get more intense and do not go away.
and the arent period like -they go all up your ab/belly and you can feel your uterus squeeze and your entire belly get hard.
Im 38 weeks and a couple days--2 weeks ago I had my first cervix exam my doc said to go to the er when the 'real' contractions are 5-6 minutes apart for 2 hours.
I havent had any real contractions since 2 weeks ago--I had another appt today & Im 3-4 cm dialated 60% thinned.
so sometimes you wont even have the contractions to count.

good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

Yes, you are having contractions. At 36 weeks the baby should be fine if born now.

SInce this is your first time in labor, it could last longer than future labors, so IN GENERAL there is no hurry to go to the hospital. When the contractions are really close together then go; if you go too soon then they will just send you home.

my braxton hicks ones weren't very strong at all......so I'd say you're in labor.
