My mother is Black and Native American (her grandmother was Native American), but we just call her and her family Black; Whatever, I really do not care about that. My father was born and raised in Jamaica, but his father is White (Scottish land owners) and his mother is Hispanic (her parents were from Cuba). My father considers himself Black though since his great great grandmother or something like that is Black, go figure. My father and his family just look Dominican (yellow, light, and sometimes just White skin with black curly hair). Anyway, my mother is getting on my case because I consider myself Black & Hispanic, am I wrong?

What a beautiful mixture you have. No you are not wrong in calling yourself Black Hispanic but I will suggest to make your family happy by allowing them to choose what they want to call your multi racial roots.

You're a "heinz 57" Black, White, Scottish, Cuban, Native American. You have no more Cuban in you than you do Scottish so why not consider yourself Black and Scottish? Truthfully, I think you answered you own question when you referred to your father's family as looking Dominican, perhaps considering yourself Black and Dominican is the most accurate.

No. You are not wrong. On any form that a person's ethnicity is asked nowadays, there's always a note under the Hispanic category: A person of Hispanic background can be of any race. Therefore, it's perfectly natural for you to say you're Black and Hispanic. Someone like Natalie Morales (whose parents are Cuban) or Meredith Vieira (who's of Portuguese heritage) , both of the NBC Today Show, can therefore refer to themselves as white and Hispanic.
