It is possible and I have heard of children being weaned off of their bottles before a year old but, he is almost one so, it may be that he just wants something that tastes better. He is getting more aware of what he is tasting. You might want to try real milk if the doctor says it's alright. A lot of kids in my family started drinking real milk a little before they turned one but, they still drank out of a bottle and a sippy cup. They do have new sippy cups that have a top kind of like a bottle's nipple.

Both my kids started weaning themselves at 7-8 mos old. They wouldn't eat babyfood and ate all tablefood by 8 months old, and just drank from a bottle in the morning. [I did carry a small bottle with powdered formula in the diaper bag for 'emergencies' but only had to use it in public once to calm down baby.] Go ahead and give him a sippy cup of whatever type you choose, and if YOU are ready for him to be off the bottle put only water in the bottle so he won't want it as much as he wants a sippy cup.

He is definitely old enough to wean. This may be your perfect opportunity to get him completely off the bottle. Both of my girls did the same thing and I got rid of the bottles altogether and they never missed a beat. I was very lucky and my pediatrician thought it was great. Try giving him milk in a sippy cup, not the bottle.

lol aren't they fun? try a sippy cup. your baby should be on formula at least until their 1 year check up and your dr. says not to give formula anymore. sometimes a change in the method can really help a baby. if he drinks well out of a sippy cup then try that. maybe a change in nipples or a differnt type of bottle will help also. just keep trying. he's just learning and playing. try to offer the formula when he's not so active and interested in why the bottle wings around and probably enjoys your reaction to it. good luck.

i would probably still continue to give it to him and let him drink what he will. as far as what you should do, there is really nothing you can do. if doesnt want it, there is no way you are gonna get it down. he is close enough to a year, so i wouldnt worry.

my son also weaned himself. he took less and less. the day after he was 10 months, he refused to take formula at all anymore.

what does he eat other than that? i think taste has so much to do with it. aside from what bit of formula i could get in him, he was just eating regular food.

everyone has their own way of doing it when it comes to taking your child off of formula but from my experience of having three kids - I'd try him on regular milk - by that age my kids were already off of formula..

good luck..

sure, try the sippy cup.. Also, if his weight is good, (as in not too tiny) you can switch him on to whole milk. Talk to your pediatrician.
