I can...just dont' know how to type "divided by" on here...I think the answer is two
If you move the "b" to the other side of the "equal"..you get a "plus b" minus 6 equals 3a...then you divide both sides by a common denominator...(any number you wish..in this case..three would be best)...that gives you ...
B - 6/3 =3a/3 ...translate into B - 2 = 1a or a....B-2 =a...Add 2 to both sides...(to get the 2 on the other side of the equation) and you get B = 2... (sigh..if this is wrong..I dont' want to know...algebra was too long gone and I've had too many brain cells killed tonight to make sure i'm right.) On the other hand...if i'm right...I'll feel great!!!!!!!!!!!!...good luck (why do I feel like "I'M" being the one tested here??????????) hehe

I'm really guessing due to lack of info on that eqt.
Take a=x b=y
3a+b=6
You would probably even want x (a) alone, so divide by 3
a+b/3=2

if standard form refers to having all the variables on one side, then yeah.
-6 = -3a - b
when you transfer something cross the 'equals' sign, you need to change the negatives to positives / positives to negatives
3a + b = 6
Voila!
haha... all the best in ur math problems...
