i think it would be a better idea if everyone grew up a little, stood on their own feet, and stopped trying to milk the govt for something that happened before any of our life times.

I think it would be a good idea. The problem is how do you figure out who gets the money? And how do you figure out who pays the money? Not every black person was a slave, although the majority were. Not every white person was a slave owner, but some were. I can't imagine how the US Government is liable for the actions of some citizens who later succeeded from them and formed their own government. But then again, Lincon stopped slavery in the South. But not in the North. Read the Emancipation Proclamation. You will be surprised what it DON'T say.
I am sure there are people that feel that the descendants of black slaves in the US are due reparations.... I just don't know how it would work. Good luck.

Reparations have been repeatedly paid since the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act that established a federally-protected and favored minority, through such anti-White programs as welfare/workfare, affirmative action and set-asides, quotas, Headstart, school integration, housing laws, and innumerable other grants, loans, subsidies, perks, and preferential treatments aimed at moving african americans en masse (instead of as individuals, as was expected and demanded of Whites) into "equality" and prosperity. That the vast majority of african americans that have failed is proof that even with an unfair advantage they are incapable of succeeding in a White society, and the reparations now being proposed would be a colossal waste of money. No other country ever went to war with itself to free slaves of an alien race. None in Africa ever will.
More African slaves were imported into, and died on plantations in Brazil than in the United States. There is no attempt to sue Brazil for reparations because the people directing this hoax know that you can't squeeze blood from a turnip, only a golden goose.

Why are you asking this question? You know people in america go nuts when you bring this up. This should have been address 100 years ago and yes they should have been paid, just like german to jew and Japanese to chinese and koreans. But people in america feel vindicated because they allow prejudice and racial hatred to continue on 100 years after free slave making an MLK necessary.
Just that ugly part of america that people like to sweep under the rug.
You will be hard pressed to find a question that gets people more excited than that one. But it doesnt matter because america would rather piss money down the iraq drain than atone for the transgressions that it allowed for the first half of its existance.

(I assume you mean in the USA) If there were any ex-slaves still alive, absolutely, but there aren't so it's a moot point. The ex POW's held in Japan did not get reparations and they're still here. They weren't held in jail, they had to work for the Mitsubishi Corporation, who at that time, made Japanese airplanes. Since they weren't paid and weren't given a choice, that makes them slaves.

No I don't.
Because if you are talking about slave reparations for the slavery here in the U.S. before Lincoln emancipated the slaves, the people who actually were slaves have long since passed on.
And I don't believe that a descendent is due that money.

Sure.
If there is an actual 158 year old ex-slave still alive out there somehwere, then I am 100% for reperations for them.
Reperations for the great-grandchildren of ex-slaves? NO, nice try.

Very very bad idea. You would be rewarding people who were not victims & punishing people who bear no guilt. It would tear the country apart.

I would think that they are all dead by now. It would be kinda hard to do. And who pays? I never owned any so I'm not responsible and I don't know that any of my ancestors owned any either.
