Absolutely... it's only fraternal twins that even run in families (and even those can be conceived spontaneously, due to many different reasons). But, identical twins are a completely random event that can happen to absolutely anyone... just like me :-) There were no twins in my family (and it doesn't even matter if there are twins in the father's side of the family), but I had a set all the same :-)

Yes very possible my friend is about to deliver twins in 3 days and they do not run in her family or fathers family

Yes.

I've read that fraternal twins run in the family. But it has to come from the mother's family (something in the genes that can cause more than one egg to drop at a time). But I have heard that identical twins do not necessarily run in the family.

Yes. I have twins and there are no twins in either side of the family. Identical twins happen by chance. They are a possiblility for any expectant mom.

It is more likely in families where there are twins. But anything is possible.

It's your eggs!!! You either have 2 that get fertilized (fraternal twins) or have one embryo that splits(identical twins). You have more to do with it than he does.
