I happened to notice that restaurants and coffee shops give public servants such as police officers, firefighters and such a special rebate. I know they do a good service but so do alot of ordinary workers why do they get preferential treatment for stuff like that. Isn't that like taking a bribe sort of speak.

It especially annoys me when I am at the cash right beside them and I can see they are buying the exact same lunch and paying significantly less than me for the same thing.

Alot of places do free coffee for police, or discount donuts (not being spiteful on the police but actual true historical basis) so they would sit and eat at their establishment. There is less chance a place will be robbed if there is a police car in the parking lot. Firefighters, well everyone likes firefighters so occasionally discounts are given.

Preferential treatment, yeah sometimes, is it fair? not always, however, as a firefighter, I have had to pay full price for a mean, sit down and eat, get a call, and have to leave the food there and when we go to eat again, have to pay once more. So I see it sometimes balances out.

A Bribe is a payment of some sort for the expectation of services above and beyond, or different from what others get. Tip the waiter 20 bucks for "suddenly finding a reservation" for a packed restruant, or paying someone influence votes. I dont see it.. If a crime was commited, if a building is on fire, then the good public servants, should give the same service to them as to everyone else.

There are some areas that have laws about using a position of public trust for personal gain, such as discounts at stores or eateries.

I was married to a police officer for years, and Yes, certain rest. in our town do give the police and firemen a discount. They say it's a show of appreciation for the services they provide, but I think it's just a ploy to get them to eat there more often. If people see them eating there, then they'll be more likely to go there too.
Unless their high. lol

I don't think the phenomenon you mentioned above is so widespread and common, however, I'm sure that there's no such rules or something to force the restaurants to give them discounts. Anyway, the restaurants have the right to give discounts to anybody they want to.
So, I don't think it may annoy me.

I always buy soldiers cofee when i see them.

Anyways, you qare allowed to be pissed off about it, and the restraunt is allowed to sell their goods at whatever price they want. I think it shouldn't bother you so much. It's ana ct of gratitude. They probably give similar perks to people of other jobs that directly benefit their establishment, like the guy who dollies in the ingredients off the delivery truck.

they can only do it when theyre on duty and thats because once in awhile they have to leave before they get anything. Thats how it is when your on call 24/7
