I don't want to be over dressed for the occassion but at the same time I don't want to be under dressed. What should I wear? Do i have to wear a long formal dress? or can i wear a nice special occassions dress that stops right below the knee?

It's being held at a nice hotel, so i'm not sure if that makes a difference. I've gone to a military ball before, but not a dining out, i just feel confused. I've just been told that it's formal and i should dress accordingly...what does that mean?

I wore a black halter cocktail dress. A lot of the older wives wore simple long boring dresses, mostly black. A lot of the sluttier gf's wore slutty halters. Ours was called a DINE IN, so I'm thinking it's the same thing. Here's a link that one of the pretty wives wore. http://purplefoxyladies.com/photo_pages/p_pussinen.htm

You will have so much fun at a military dining out. I went to 2 when I was in highschool and they were so fun. The wear for this occassion is formal which consist of a evening gown. So go find you a beauty dress, find a hairstyle and get a mani and a pedi. Hope you enjoy.

Do you know any of the other ladies that have gone before?? IF so, ask them....they will tell you. If you are the one in service, I believe that you are supposed to wear your dress uniform. Also...if you can afford it, go to a formal shop or a finer department store in the area, and I am sure that they have enough experience with the local service people to head you into the right direction. Good Luck and breathe deep...classic style always wins!!!

If you are going to a formal occasion especially concerning the military they are going to be wearing their dress uniforms. I would go with a long formal dress that way you are also showing respect. and looking like a lady. You will be the price of someone's arm

Considering it is described as a "formal" a formal - floor length dress would be appropriate.

If you don't have one, I'm sure a special occassion dress will work fine.

(Or you have an excuse to go shopping!!)

We do military formals all the time. A lot of people tend to go wtih navy blue or a darker color. You can go to www.PromDressShop.com/cgi-bin/cart.pl and type navy in the search box to give you some ideas.
