What is done with the cell phones that you send back in the mail when they are old??

i know that cingular resells them....my husband lost his phone a few times and went to cingular and bought a refurbished one....but idk about all the other companies....

most of the time they referbish them if they can. they will run lots of tests on the phone to ensure that the phone is working before they re sell it. Sometimes their are different organizations that can collect the cell phones and get money for them like special olympics etc. Most of the time they make the most out of the phone, but sometimes, I'm sure that they just throw it away or recycle it.

It probably depends on the age and condition of the phone. If it's reasonably current, it can be cleaned, refurbished and sent for re-sale. Somebody will by it for a major discount or more likely the companies bundle lots of phone and sell them to resale specialist stores.

If the phone is too old to be attractive to a buyer it may be sent to another market (country), tossed, or donated to a cell phone program for low-income participants.

The phone is always active for 911. They are sometime given to abuse victims who may be in danger. This way they can get the police no matter where they are.
