I've heard that there's a pressure point on the bottom of the foot that can cause contractions in pregnant woman and that it's good to do to start labor or to keep it progressing. I'm almost ten weeks pregnant and when I get pedicures, they massage my whole foot. I haven't gotten one since I found out, but was planning to go soon. I'm going to ask the doctor when I see him tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone heard of it being a problem or if it was ok to still go ahead with getting them.

I wasn't really concerned about going into labor now. I was wondering about when I get further into the pregnancy.

there isnt ANYTHING you can do to bring on labor--
it is going to happen when baby is ready.
the little tricks there are to do-walking, sex, nipple stimulation--only work if you are already in one of the 3 labor stages.
you cant bring on labor when you want it--baby will come when he or she is ready.

yes there are pressure points on the foot that can cause the uterus to contract- a pedicure and/or massage are safe. In order for the pressure point to work- it has to be done by someone who really knows what they are doing- it's not just going to happen from a pedicure massage! enjoy your pedicure!

I agree with mable (the one who is above me)
For the reflex to work you must be in labor. All it does is help stimulate a contraction but very minimally.
Good luck and have your pretty feet with a good massage!
You will really want it when you can not easily reach your toes anymore and your feet hurt all the time from the babies weight.

usually you can go somewhere that specializes in pedicures especially prenatal ones. i know that when i would get a massage while pregnant they warned me about that point in your foot (was told its between the ankle and the heel) along with certain aromatherapy smells that also can induce labor. so just be careful!

Get the ped, and skip the message if you are worried. But I have never heard of what you are asking. Even so, at 10 weeks nothing could really put you in to labor.

I've never heard of that. I had plenty of pedicures when pregnant and no early labor here.

The foot is like a map. each section of it (being massage) affects diffrent parts of your body. head, liver, back, circulation. it will help a little, not so much for the pain or to get any relief but its good for health reasons. and if you health, your baby is healthy. all the best dool

Pedicures do not cause contractions. Keep getting them and don't stress about it.

It is called reflexology. It is a massage technique that can affect different parts of the body based on where they massage.
