Well the planets weren't created for any reason - they are just a natural consequence of the physics or our particular solar system when it formed. However, some planets have turned out to be quite useful to us, in different ways.
The precession of the orbit of Mercury was used to prove some aspect of general relativity.
The huge mass of Jupiter allowed it to sweep up a lot of debris left over in the solar system and so prevented earth from receiving a lot more meteoric impacts.
Jupiter also brings comets into our part of the solar system, for our amusement!
They inspired us to build telescopes and rocket ships to explore space.
Although it's not a planet, the moon gives us tides which probably helped in the evolution of life onto dry land, which ultimately led to us.
If there were no other planets, then very likely there would also not be an earth, because it would have meant that the conditions for planet forming were not good! So that sense, their presence is almost essential to our existence.
You might well ask what is the use of the planet earth? From a long way away, it would not look any different to the other planets near our sun. I know we personally find it quite useful, but that's just us being selfish, as usual!

If you want some "transendental" info u shoulda posted this in alternative science. The old believe that the planets are the way they are because everything follows a pattern (as below, so above) and that they are a large representation of the metaphysical laws that control the universe. They also represent the seven musical tones.
But truly, planets are just planets, and they don't "represent" anything, any use we give to something is exactly that, something WE give it, a characteristic that has to do directly with us, when in reality our solar system is like an atom on a grain of sand on an infinite beach, and we are not the center of the beach party.

Earth is bigger than some planets and smaller than others. We can beat up the smaller ones and kinda make friends with the the larger ones. The ones really far away do not effect us so as long as we keep Mars Venus and Mercury in check we will be ok.

An interesting little experienment done in space with mice was performed to see if they could reproduce in zero gravity. The result was that the offspring were fromed in a random way, (legs, tail, head all out of order) The animal kingdom requires gravity to reproduce. Also it is theorized that the planets effect on the unborn in a way we call the horoscope. Planets could be of use for mining. (when we all learn spacetravel) We do not have much use for them now, but we will, oneday...

The gravity of these planets also keeps us from plummeting into the sun. Without the gravity of all the other planets pulling us away the suns gravity would slowly pull us in until life would no longer exist because we were too close.

allah, ghandi, zeus, and god all got together and decided that they needed stepping stones to get to the warm campfire in the center of our solar system.
