One of two reasons. They think they own you like cattle and want to control your life. Two. They don't want to pay the vet bill when their cow gets sick.

The government wants you to be healthy so it won't have to pay for your medical bills when you get lung cancer and/or heart disease. Your friends should be concerned about you too, but hopefully for less selfish reasons.
