Well that question has variables, time, witnesses, circumstance, amount, was the facility private or public and did they have a legal gaming a license, I am going to say if you were at someone's house, the answer is no, and tell them to get bent you have to be a real dumbazz to go in front of a judge and cry about loosing money on a bet, I know many judges and if you file a a suit like that and it entered their court room, they would not think very kindly of you wasting their time, and the tax payers for time for something that common sense could have guided you through, judges dont have time for BS, they could impose a judgement for damages ensued but I highly doubt they'd put them away for non payment you knew better, they knew better, if in your state, 100 of years back there is a law grandfathered about gambling in a private home, then someone's not going to be smiling pretty if it questions legality.

In my state a person was sentenced to jail for cursing in public, this was an ordiance from about 150 years ago, and the man who cursed in front of women and children is literally resting his head in the cty jail. SO I say this you can either go to judge admit to a court reporter and everyone else that you take place in illegal gambling, even if it was a happy little bet, or let me remind you that there is a freedom of information act, which makes that part of your life accesible to all if they want to go through your public records and some people can and others they cant, so I said all that to say this, is you owe the money pay it before a big tattooed man knocks on your door, or if they threated you with you court let them try to do they will look stupid and piss off judge, either way chances are some not going to play nice and lets hope judge doesnt decide to make an example of either of you and if he is feeling daper he will

This sort of behaviour between family members is terrible and even more shocking when its a mother and daughter. You write about this situation like its a common problem in families, you obviously come from a dysfunctional family. I would never ask my children to pay me back for anything let alone sue them. Though there are many situations where the adult children are moochers and take advantage of their Parents but the bottom line is that no matter what the situation, your parents should love you unconditionally and your mother is a disgrace.

Maybe so. Why would you pay off someone's gambling debt and expect to get paid back? That's like saying, I trust Jack the Ripper as Humanitarian of the year. Here Mr. Ripper, use my knife to cut your cake, I'll close my eyes while you make a wish.

Money or debts arising from gambling cannot be enforced when the gambling is prohibited under law. However, if gambling is legal, the debt is collectible.

Do you have proof that you loaned him money? If you have kept good documentation you should have a case, gambling may be illegal but if you made a good faith loan to a "friend" you have rights if the amt does not exceed small claims amt that may be your best bet.
