I doubt. The level of competition in Europe as compared to the level in MLS is much, much higher. Also, the prestige of playing in Europe is incomparable, especially if it is a world class club. MLS as of now, will still remain the last choice, unless the offer is very hefty, just like Beckham's!

No, this was their big fish, for now. In the near future, I don't see any more stars coming because the money isn't here for them to come. The MLS is a profit sharing league, so all owners are just pretty much running their teams together and all with the same purpose, to make the LEAGUE the best. They will see what this does for the league and see if it was worth it, and then decide if they want to go after any other stars. The best this league will do to get any more huge players is by getting them after their value has dropped(when they're older and over the hill) with the European teams and then we over pay, again. I, personally, love it and think it should work out. We were also looking at Ronaldo. It will take a while for this league to work out and I hope this move doesn't end up being a flop because I would love to this league be one of the best in the world. With America having a great league, it will bring interest to the sport locally, and with interest we will have youths interested in playing soccer as well other than football and the other major sports. If we can get the youths interested, then we can get better players and we can become the international powerhouse we should be. I can't wait for USA to be named up there with the other great nations in soccer and I definitely can't wait for the US to win our first World Cup. Look for the league to drum up interest, look for the US to host in the nect 12-16 years, and look for the US to win it.

No. Stars have come to the MLS before, with no long-term impact. We just dont have enough money to entice big names to come, and without a pre-existing market, they wouldn't want to come for any other reason anyway.
Anyway, my guess is that Beckham will steadily become more and more out of shape, and he won't find a good fit with the American soccer style anyway. He'll be a starter for 2-3 years, but then a no-name American with something to prove (who knows how to play as a teammate) will knock him off the roster.

Do you think mls will give this kinda money to some africans? How about brazilians? Japanese? If no, then there is your answer.
My guess is that this is a last ditch effort to save to league. Thats what I think it looks like to world soccer.

Hopefully and then our news isn't full of them any more. Surely there are more important things to discuss than thes inflated egos with pay packets to match. I think it's obscene that they get paid so much when there is poverty everywhere - yes, even in the western world.
