Nah, guys are so damned...."I'm not gay" obsessive...sheesh.
Chicks don't care if you hug too long.....whatever.
But, yea......if one lingers too long.........you could cause a serious crisis in the "I'm not gay" men's club, causing rugged looking manly men in black outfits that don't match to show up on the scene, take you both into custody, toss you in a pit with no food or water and interrogate you to the point of madness. Then drop you off at work the next day...looking as though you just had an all night fling,to be teased by your buddies and co-workers for eternity...........nnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

If you are the guy being clung onto, then yes you have to think of an intervention before you actually start lingering with a hug back.

Could just mean he thinks of you as a really close friend. I'd say it's a 50/50 chance. I've seen straight guys get really mushy with their friends, and they definitely weren't gay. If it makes you uncomfortable, bring it up in a nice, non-confrontational way. Casually mention it without your buddies being present. An intervention may do more harm than good.

What about football players slapping each others butts....and they hug like crazy if they win the superbowl. Lots of hugging time goes on in sports.....

doesn't mean they're gay just that they are either unaware of the '3 second' rule, the back slapping rule or their timing is off.

Hugging is not an indicator. I know gay guys who don't hug, and straight guys who hug for a long time. Also, it is customary for two men to hug in certain cultures (even kiss on the cheek), and these men are not gay.

Isn't it sad that both men and women are afraid of being affectionate toward members of the same sex for fear of being considered gay? Friends hug. Family members hug. Hugging is good for the soul, and it doesn't mean one or the other is gay.

Smack him in the head and go on with your business like nothing happened - but make a mental note to never hug him again!

I'd blush. Unless they were trying to be funny. My husband will only hug other men in extreme circumstances.
