That's the biggest contract in all of sport. But MLS isn't exactly thriving. Where did the money come from?

Actually, the Galaxy front office isn't paying for all of the 250 mill. That number includes endorsement deals as well as his actual contract. And at this point, the LA Galaxy officials won't disclose how much of the 250 mill THER"YE going to pay.

Either that, or Jerry Buss is lending them a few benjamins.

And did you know that Kobe Bryant, who is a big soccer fan having grown up in Italy, was willing to help Tim Leiwicki with this deal by personally calling Beckham? In the end, Kobe's phone call wasn't necessary, but how weird is that?

He is going to be involved in a number of endorsement deals that will pay a good chunk of the 50m/yr. I bet the MLS franchise may prorate a portion of his contract and pay it after the 5 years is over, similar to how they worked a rods contract in new york. I wouldn't be surprised if MLS set up some sort of "revenue sharing" agreement that magically dumps a lot of dough in the LA galaxys lap. The entire league wants Beckham there so that they all have jobs for years to come.

He advantages it. he's that primary. notwithstanding, his certain revenue over 5 years is in effortless words $50 million. the vast majority of his income will come from image rights, which before he shared with genuine Madrid. look at the hyperlink to the object featuring this question and answer: a million. Is Beckham's settlement with the Galaxy truly nicely actual worth the reported $250 million? No, and that is not even close. Leiweke refused to communicate the archives of Beckham's deal, yet league elements shown that Beckham's certain revenue will be round $50 million over the entire 5-12 months length of the settlement. that is hardly chump replace, notwithstanding that is nonetheless less than the salaries of a large number of U.S. activities stars.

It's even more complicated than that. MLS players are not really the property of individual teams, since all teams and all players are property of THE LEAGUE! The League then "assigns" players to teams, and then manipulates rosters to balance talent , keep competitive balance, and improve team marketing and exposures within their markets.

This is much different approach than most other team sports. The League is also handling all sorts of stuff that the player in most other sports would independently hire their own agent for and contract for separately.

The highest paid player before Beckham:

16 year old Freddie Adu: $500,000 per year.

Payroll for the entire MLS in 2005 was $23.6 million.

Many many starting players in the US are paid as little as $25,000 per year. College Football players earn more ... lol

It's in LA man! With the salary cap lifted, owners who make millions like we make thousands don't really have a problem. It's just a risky proposition considering that it might be spent without any real return, at least not in the near future.

Total madness... Becks is past his prime.

At first I thought it was a typo - even if they had left out one of the zeros it would still have been unwise - but this is complete madness if it is what they say it is.

they're probably cutting down the funds on some of their other players, and lowering ticket prices, food prices, sports gear prices, jersey prices ect. with hope that will help them.
