Well, think about it. The homeless are usually in survival mode and are forced to do whatever they can to survive. This includes stealing.... Okay, I'm not an expert. But does in not affect the economy when they are forced to steal something and then the stores have to raise prices to cover the losses? Does it not affect the economy when people dig into their own pockets and try to help these people out? I'm not going to go deep off into this topic.

But! Tthere are numerous ways homelessness affects our society today and really, it will probably only get worse as time goes by. Why? Because as time goes by our economy worsens and the cost of living is sky rocketing right before our very eyes! Sometimes, like when I pay my bills every month, it ways heavy on my mind. I do not understand why I have to pay so much for a decent place to live in and to pay the utilities every month. My goodness, in some places just normal everyday folks are having to pay like a grand for an apartment.... To me, that's just insane.

The homesless are homeless for a reason. Many of them are mentally ill and many of them just lack a decent education and the skills to get a job that will pay enough to support themselves. I've been there.... I think 3 or 4 times in my life. Why? For the reasons stated. That was 17 years ago....But still is one of my biggest fears---losing my apartment and becoming homeless again. All it would take is for me to get really sick..... or for my ssi benefits to be cut.

Ideas to fix the problem? Good mental health facilities....that includes the staff. Good educations.... Receiving help when it's needed.....Others that are willing to help out in some capacity.... These are just a few off the top of my head. I'm sure there are lots of good ideas out there. The problem is putting them into action and then seeing it come to fruition.

Thanks for asking the question and giving me something to think about.

Homelessness is a situation that has occurred only because the courts ruled that it is constitutional and should be tolerated.
Blame the Liberal Judges!
To squat in front of a Building in a High priced neighborhood is very destructive to the entire community! Once upon a time in Houston there was a place called the Pea Farm(The 70's Movie "Sugar land Express" was based on it). Transients, drunks and loiterers were sent there to basically be forced to work! The benefit was that they got sobered up, got money in their pockets and clean new clothes! the only disadvantage was they were forced to clean up and be responsible!
The Homeless problem in the city occurred the day after the courts shut it down!
I am not saying people should not be free to wander and scrounge for a living, just that it is a big Country, and that Downtown or Suburban areas do not need or appreciate the potential criminal activity desperate people inherently bring with them! I am also saying that a thing like the Pea-Farm helps those who are unable to help themselves!

Generally the effect is services and donatations to the needy causes. Unfortuntatly the ecomony is Not really affected by the homeless.

If the local governments had any backbones and where not afraid of lawsuit for giving out work they would restart the WPA. (Work Projects of America) Many structures you see and use still today where built under this program. Those who could and wanted to work had jobs building what America needed, well built I might say too. Then when a better job comes people could slide into the new carreer.

Problem is even if people are willing to pick up trash, repair streets or build public use building and bridges, someone will sue these days and claim unfair labor - it has to go to bid or some such.

You can't fix it,, just do not enable it! people are homeless for a variety or reasons and most are not the stereotypical. Some are just down on their luck with no one to care and give a helping hand,, most programs out there are to help the abused,,drunks, druggies, HIV, and people who are mentally ill.
But But find yourself a single mom who was robbed,, smart and intelligent. They say tough luck your not in need.
