because we didn't evolve from them. We were created by God

That is because the human species did not evolve directly from the apes and monkeys you see today. In fact, close ancestors of our own include the astrolopitecus afarehnsis and the homo habilis. These follow an intricate pattern in which they become more and more capable of bipedal locomotion and have more and more of an s-shaped backbone. The common ancestor of these was ape-like, that is not to say that we come from the apes and monkeys that exist today, in fact they are evolved forms of a common ancestor with us, and have adapted better for their environment, in which complex language systems are not of utmost importance, yet would improve their life style according to our perceptions.

Hello =)

Now, do you think you are being original??

First, we are not evolved FROM monkeys and apes....we ARE the 5th Great Ape...but I suspect that logic will be lost on you.

Ok...lets use some examples that surely you will understand.

In the time of Christ, Jesus, (who I do believe was a living great ape, by the way, just as we are today), human beings were considered "tall" if they exceeded 5 ft tall. Most humans were in the range of 4'8" - 5'5".... Any one of us today would be regarded as a "Giant"....and probably stoned to death out of fear. I certainly would, at 6'2", and nearly 400 lbs......

So, one could argue that if "tall" men evolved from "short" men, in the course of a mere 2000 years, since the advent of Christ, why are there still short people??

Very simple experiments in evolution can be done right in your home, if you like.....take a common group of cockroaches. Divide them in half. In one half of the group, snip their antennae in half on all of them, but otherwise allow them to keep breeding as normal....the other half is you "control group"....over a few months, you will find that in the "snipped group", the antennae end up becoming naturally shorter.....the cockroaches are adapting to the environment of you "snipping" their antennae. They are "evolving" right before your eyes. This does not mean that the control group needs to evolve, because it didn't experience the same causes and conditions within its environment, namely antennae snipping.....

It is much the same with the great apes, you see....the ones that had causes and conditions to evolve did so....those that did not, of course, did not evolve...... Of course, Humans and Chimps shared an ancestor, not all that long ago. Chimps had causes and conditions to evolve along one model, and Humans along another.....so far, we have both been successful. The fact that we can read, write, speak, and use technology merely makes us a very "clever" ape....it does not suggest superiority by any valid measurement. Neither are we the most intelligent creature on the planet.....we simply have evolved those skills mentioned above. Should elephants, dolphins, or whales be granted the power of speech, either by evolution, the hand of God, or genetic manipulation, you would see very quickly how much we are lacking, and the "biblical" assertion of man's superiority would certainly be swept aside.

One more thing that bothers me about creationists.....Christ tossed aside the words of Moses, as did the Apostles, as did Martin Luther..... Since Genesis is the work of Moses, why is it that you find this so difficult to set aside, but things like eating pork and shellfish don't bother you a bit??

Namaste,

--Tom

because the monkeys and apes that are here now weren't around a long time ago either, we all evolved from what is called a "common ancestor"... 10 million years ago, there were no modern chimpanzees or humans, but a common ancestor was there, and both species evolved from this common ancestor... many more millions of years before that there were no monkeys at all, but there was a mammal that is our common ancestor, one that we all evolved from... you can keep going back too, you know, we all evolved from small mouse like mammals, and before that a fish, and before that some creature that we really wouldn't recognize, and before that some small single celled organism that existed billions of years ago... they're all in our family tree...

Because not all monkeys and apes evolved.

Example: 2 seeds fall from a tree. 1 lands on the dirt, 1 lands on the sidewalk. Eventually the 1 on the dirt starts growing and becomes a tree, while the 1 on the sidewalk is still just a seed.

This is one of the dumbest questions I've ever heard. No respectable scientist claims that we evolved from monkeys and apes. The actual theory states that monkeys and humans have a common ancestor. Please grow up a little bit and stop spreading this ridiculous propoganda. If you honestly didn't know how ridiculous your question was, then you are probably 11 years old.

Evolutionary developement can "create" a new species but it does not have to "replace" the previous species. Its not like boxes of "New and Improved Tide" are replacing all the old boxes of Tide on the shelf.

Both the old and new species can co-exist and co-evolve.

In the case of apes and humans though, we both once had a common ancestor who has long ago vanished. But even though it is long gone, both our groups, their decendents, continue to survive.

Also, you have to remember that an evolutionary trait is first developed in one individual member of a species, it only become "collective" when that individual sexually mixes with the other members of his local group. But other members of local groups of the "old" species may still may continue to survive in other, different environments.

The history channel keeps showing something called the evoulotion of man. It was pretty good. Try catching it sometime, they said we evolved differently - they think there were such things like hobbits, neianderthatls, and ape-like humans. Eventually we somehow became like this as tribes conquered other tribes and with breading with other tribes.

We didn't. Humans and present day apes both evolved from a common ancestor. Both species were better suited to their environment than the ancestors, so the latter went extinct. Evolution is now a proven fact (details on request).

Scientifically we did evolve from apes yet there is a gap that scientists cannot figure out--this is when God (religion) plays a role. There have been more findings that brought us closer to the evolution from the apes idea yet a higher power is blocking the whole truth.
